VIRTUALITY AS REALITY

Invited to participate in the Serendipity Festival, the Musée d’Art moderne de Paris offers an exhibition entitled Virtuality as Reality. Based on a selection of films from the museum's collection, the project reflects the idea of virtuality that irrigates ever more strongly the daily life. This virtualisation of human societies questioned by artists, is creating new territories, it is transforming the being and its relationship to the world. Through the exhibition, we can foresee the portrait of a generation of artists qualified as 'Digital natives' who have integrated the uses of the web and social networks into their practices. Their speculations, their questions sketch out scenarios that are sometimes exciting, sometimes worrying and seem to alert us on the future of the connected human being.

About Musée d'Art moderne de Paris 

Located between the Champs-Elysées and the Eiffel Tower, the Musée d'Art moderne de Paris unfolds itself in a magnificent example of 1930s architecture. It is unquestionably one of the major institutions of Parisian cultural life. The Museum’s collection of more than 13,000 works makes it one of the biggest museums of modern and contemporary art in France. Built for the International Exposition “des Arts et des Techniques dans la vie moderne” in 1937, and officially inaugurated in 1961, the Museum is famous for its dynamic and international shows such as Derain, Balthus, Giacometti;  Sonia Delaunay;  Jean-Michel Basquiat;  Keith Haring;  Andy Warhol; David Altmejd;  Zeng Fanzhi; Carl André;  Thomas Houseago…  The permanent collections, cover all the main artistic trends from the beginning of the 20th century up to the present day, and include major artists from those periods, such as Picasso, Dufy, Modigliani, Picabia, Chagall, as well as Boltanski, Parreno and Peter Doig.
