At the end of one of the most spectacular career years any artist of South Asian descent has ever enjoyed – including starring at the Whitney Biennial in New York City – the Kenya-born, Canadian artist (he’s based in the USA) of Goan origin, Brendan Fernandes makes his exhibition debut in his ancestral homeland. In keeping with his pioneering work at the intersection of dance and visual arts, whic address issues of race, queer culture, migration, protest and other forms of collective movement, his very special Serendipity Arts Festival project will celebrate the deep-rooted humanism and pluralistic, open-minded tolerance that is the cultural bedrock of India’s smallest state.
