ARTIST STATEMENT

Since my childhood I was exposed to all genres of music. It is only later on that I was introduced to Sufism while recording for my launch album "Ishqa Ishqa" with Vishal Bhardwaj and Gulzar Sahab. Serendipity Arts Festival has given me an opportunity to present this bouquet of different flowers, each imparting its own fragrance... I shall be singing original ghazals, thumri, Amir Khusrau’s sufiyana kalaam, persian kalaam of Sarmast sufi saint poet besides Nusrat Fateh Ali Sahab’s popular songs and few of my popular songs from movies like Barfi; Dedh Ishqiya; Ye Jawani Hai Deewani. I promise you all an evening of brotherhood of love, of celebration and divine ecstasy—a journey of my soul to your soul.

ABOUT REKHA BHARDWAJ

A renowned multilingual Indian playback singer, Rekha Bhardwaj is known for her distinctive style of singing. She has won Global Indian Music Awards for Best Duet in the song 'Kabira’ with Tochi Raina, and is a National Award winner for the song ‘Badi Dheere Jali’ from the movie 'Ishqiya’. She is known for performance of Sufism and has performed in over 500+ concerts all over the globe. Her repertoire includes over 50 superhit Bollywood songs. From the song ‘Judaai’ in the movie Badlapur to ‘Mileya Mileya' in the movie ‘Happy Ending’; ‘Kabira’ and ‘Ghaghra’ from the movie ‘yeh jawaani hai deewani’; ‘Banna Banni’ from the movie ‘Revolver Rani’; ‘Phir le aaya dil’ from the movie ‘Barfi'; ‘Dum Ghuta Hai' from the movie 'Drishyam'; 'Zindagi Kuch toh Bata’ from the movie ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’; 'Zinda' from the movie Talvar.
